Bassano del Grappa
A town at the foot of the mountain of the same name, it is crossed by the River Brenta, whose banks are joined by the Ponte Degli Alpini bridge, famous throughout the world for its wooden covered structure designed by Andrea Palladio.
It is the birthplace of Jacopo Da Ponte, known as Jacopo Bassano, who together with his sons Francesco and Leandro animated the city's artistic scene in the 16th century. Bassano retains a magnificent medieval structure and is known throughout the world as the 'City of the Alpini'.
In 1779, the Nardini Distillery, the oldest in Italy, began operations. The historic center houses the 'Palazzo Roberti Library', regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world.
