The Piave River originates at the foot of Mount Peralba in the Carnic Alps at Sappada in Friuli and after 220 kilometers flows into the Adriatic at Cortellazzo di Jesolo in the province of Venice.
It is a river of great importance for the economy of the Veneto region and the history of its country. Its waters, wisely governed over the centuries by the Serenissima, ensured energy and irrigation for the upper Venetian plain and the transport of goods from Cadore down to the Venetian Lagoon; in particular, timber, minerals, and provisions. At its waters, the Austro-Hungarian invasion was brought to a halt and thus the Great War was brought to an end.
