Monte Grappa
A pre-alpine mountain massif (1775 m a.s.l.), encompassing the provinces of Vicenza, Treviso, and Belluno, and nestled between the Piave and Brenta valleys. It is famous for the Italian army's strenuous resistance to the Austro-Hungarian breakthrough in the First World War.
In memory of those dramatic events, the monumental Ossuary stands on its summit in memory of the Italian victims and with a part also dedicated to the fallen of the opposing front.
At the foothills of the Grappa, Antonio Canova (1757-1822), one of the greatest Neoclassical sculptors was born in Possagno. His birthplace is home to the Gypsotheque dedicated to him.
